Gardening and Earning From the Kitchen Garden

Gardening, can be really exciting especially when you see your plants bearing new leaves and fruits. If you have less space outside, you could keep your pots on the terrace and create your own 'Terrace Garden' or keep them in your balcony. Ornamental plants will give your home a very fresh look. Growing your own vegetables, that are free of pesticides, could be extremely rewarding especially if you have kids in the house.

SUMMER VEGETABLES - the plants crops and vegetables that grow best during the rainy seasons are cucumber, gourds, pumpkin, muskmelon, summer squash, lady's finger, turmeric, mint, chilli, bitter gourd etc. While planting these vegetables few Guide Lines should be followed. If you plant the seeds in the garden then use a raised bed. These crops need support therefore suitable climbing support should be provided for most of them.

Regular watering and manuring is a must. Weeding should be done regularly. Cut off any worm or blight infected leaf.

HARVESTING - pick the fruits, when green and tender. Sell the excess to your visiting 'bhajiwalla' or simply benefit from the fruits of your labour, eat fresh vegetables and be proud of the fact that you created someting new which is environmentally safe and pure.

For ORNAMENTAL PLANTS you will need few pots with organic manure. Some annuals are amaranthus, cosmos, lupin, marigold, phlox, pansy zinnia etc. Perennials will stay with you for a longer time and look very attractive when kept inside the house. Begonias, ferns, orchids, cacti, money plants, succulents, palms etc are few examples.

AFTERCARE - Watering, manuring, repotting and use of fungicides should be done regularly.

With regular care the garden will show good results.
